Point-to-Point Links

Cogent Distribution is a leading source and supplier of market-leading and best-of-breed point-to-point wireless connectivity solutions.

Our solutions are aimed at providing high bandwidth, highly secure and highly reliable point-to-point (PtP) wireless broadband connectivity, including 60GHz radio. We supply radio-based point-to-point solutions from a wide range of manufacturers, all chosen for the quality of their solutions and market presence. These include SAF Tehnika and RADWIN.

Point-to-Point Wireless Connectivity

Point-to-point (PtP) links are normally used to wirelessly connect two locations or sites together, whether these are buildings or temporary locations / sites. A typical scenario is when a business has several buildings close by, either on an industrial estate or in a business park and wishes to connect them via radio connectivity.

Bandwidth can be from 100Mbps to 10Gbps, and most solutions have highly secure encoding to protect the traffic as it passes between the buildings. In general, wireless point-to-point solutions are used to connect site buildings that share the same network and typically use ethernet standards allowing for the transmission of data, voice and video, with very low latency and very high reliability. Distances can vary depending on the connectivity needed and local spectrum. Typically, 5km and up to 12km is achievable with LoS and up to 350m NLoS.

Fibre Alternative

PtP solutions are an effective fibre alternative, used to extend connectivity to areas beyond the reach of traditional methods such as fibre cabled services or copper cable connectivity. There are many examples of how this type of solution can be deployed. PtP technology can be used to link two buildings together with high bandwidth (up to 10Gbps for primary connection). PtP can also be deployed as a resilient back-up to an already existing fibre infrastructure. Typical features of a PtP link are high bandwidth, low latency and high security. These features are very important when linking two networks together and when workers rely on the link.

Temporary Connectivity

PtP networks can also be deployed quickly with very short lead times to enable connectivity for emergencies or for temporary connectivity, for example at public events. Such PtP links are also widely used during the construction of buildings, roads and rail networks and within the marine, maritime, and renewable energy sectors for connectivity whilst on the move (mobile connectivity).

RADWIN PtP

RADWIN’s portfolio of wireless point-to-point connectivity solutions delivers the longest range and highest capacity in its class, along with rich QoS capabilities. You can support co-location installation of multiple radios while ensuring link capacity and long distance performance using built-in GPS. RADWIN’s air-interface ensures reliable link performance, even in challenging conditions such as nLOS or congested spectrum. Their radio planning tool offers highly predictable link performance. Fast antenna alignment and service commissioning is efficiently delivered through a single side of the link.

RADWIN 60GHz PtP

RADWIN’s new TerraNet Series of PtP (and point-to-multipoint) 60GHz radio units deliver reliable and ultra-high-speed, low-latency connectivity, ideal for applications like high-density urban environments, last-mile access, and enterprise networking. The TerraNet radios provide up to 2.5 Gbps of throughput for seamless performance even in crowded spectrum environments. TerraNet is suitable for short-range point-to-point links as master or slave, which guarantees precise, highly reliable connectivity with its targeted, high-performance link capabilities.

Key benefits of the TerraNet 60GHz radio are:- They support an extended frequency range of 57-71GHz (Channels 1-6) in line with Ofcom regulations, a single hardware can be configured as an AP/base station or a Client, they have advanced security with AES+GCMP 128 bit encryption, and a beamforming antenna with auto alignment.

We will help with designing and planning your point-to-point (PtP) wireless connectivity requirements using our advanced planning software.

We can also identify and provide calculations of throughput (connectivity) and speed, based on height and distance.

Technology

We can provide wireless PtP links that operate in licensed, mmWave and unlicensed spectrum, to meet the required connectivity parameters. Our products and vendors have been carefully selected to enhance our offer to industry customers.

Our dedicated in-house team, our skills in surveying, deployment, pre-staging and maintaining, set us apart from other distribution companies. We thrive on adding additional value to our customers to ensure they always get the service they need!

SLA

Typically, the installation of a point-to-point link offers a shorter SLA compared to traditional forms of connectivity. This enables your connection and business to be back up and running quickly should an issue occur.

PtP links are often used as a combined solution as a backup to allow greater redundancy option.
