Point-to-multipoint connectivity including 60GHz technology

Point-to-Multipoint Links

Cogent Distribution is a renowned stockist and distributor of market-leading, best-in-class connectivity solutions for delivering high bandwidth, highly secure and highly reliable point-to-multipoint wireless radio-based connectivity.

We supply wireless broadband point-to-multipoint (PtMP) connectivity solutions, including 60GHz technology, from carefully selected manufacturers, chosen for the quality of their technologies and market presence. These include RADWIN and SAF Tehnika.

Point-to-Multipoint Wireless Connectivity

Point-to-multipoint (PtMP) links are used to wirelessly connect multiple locations, buildings, or sites. PtMP links can provide backhaul connectivity, primarily using Ethernet standards allowing for the transmission of data, voice and video, with very low latency and very high reliability. This type of wireless system uses an access point or base station to provide wide area wireless coverage to multiple remote nodes or subscribers.

Distances can vary depending on the required connectivity and local spectrum, however, typically 5km and up to 12km is achievable. Coverage can be wide or narrow according to the connectivity area required, with individual speeds between 5Mbps and 10Gbps, subject to the technology used.

PtMP with PtP

Point-to-multipoint solutions are often used in conjunction with point-to-point solutions to extend connectivity to areas beyond the reach of traditional alternatives such as fibre cabled services or copper cable connectivity. This technology can be used to link back to a central control point, to IP-CCTV cameras on a business park or campus, or to allow a company with multiple buildings on a spread-out site or across a town or city to link all the buildings together for primary networking connectivity, or as a resilient back-up to an already existing fibre infrastructure.

Another typical example is to allow ISPs in rural areas to provide connectivity to businesses or domestic dwellings quickly and effectively, especially where laying fibre cable is expensive, time-consuming to lay or too difficult to achieve.

PtMP Deployment

Point-to-multipoint networks can also be deployed quickly with very short lead times to enable connectivity for emergencies or for temporary connectivity, e.g. at public events. Such PtMP links are also widely used during the construction of buildings, highways, and rail networks, and within the marine, maritime, and renewable energy sectors for mobile connectivity.

RADWIN PtMP

RADWIN’s point-to-multipoint wireless connectivity solutions allow extended network reach through unmatched reliability. Their PtMP wireless radio solutions address a wide range of connectivity scenarios and meet the increasing demand for high capacity connectivity, necessary for business, residential and specific industry sectors.

The company’s comprehensive portfolio delivers a fibre-like PtMP wireless connection over several sub 6GHz frequency bands. Operational Support System tools simplify PtMP network operations and ensure long-term, high quality connectivity.

RADWIN PtMP Solutions

RADWIN 60GHz PtMP

RADWIN has introduced the TerraNet Series, comprising the affordable V120 and V40 PtMP (and point-to-point) 60GHz radio units. TerraNet 60GHz PtMP provides up to 2.3Gbps net aggregated throughput and supports up to 32 subscriber units per base station. Also with full V-band support 57-71GHz (Channels 1-6), in line with Ofcom regulations. Flexible deployment options mean TerraNet is suitable for point-to-multipoint (and point-to-point) deployments, and perfect for a variety of use cases, from last-mile connectivity to backbone network extensions. Each TerraNet 60GHz radio can be configured as point-to-multipoint (or point-to-point).

TerraNet 60GHz point-to-multipoint radios can be configured as Base Stations or Clients for establishing extensive access networks, providing wide-reaching coverage through its sophisticated 2D beamforming technology with automatic antenna alignment. The key benefits of TerraNet radios are:- They support an extended frequency range of 57-71GHz (Channels 1-6) in line with Ofcom regulations, a single hardware can be configured as an AP/base station or a Client, they have advanced security with AES+GCMP 128 bit encryption, and a beamforming antenna with auto alignment.

SAF Tehnika 60GHz PtMP

SAF Tehnika’s new license free microwave PtMP (and point-to-point) 60GHz radios, FreeMile, are designed for efficient use of 60GHz spectrum, which is essential for reducing interference and maximising coverage. The FreeMile 60, as well as the FreeMile 60 + 100mm kit, the FreeMile 60 + 300mm kit, and the new 45 and 90 degree scanning kits, deliver exceptional range and maximum performance in demanding environments.

The key benefits of FreeMile radios are:- They support an extended frequency range of 57-71GHz (Channels 1-6) in line with Ofcom regulations, a single hardware can be configured as an AP/base station or a Client, they have advanced security with AES+GCMP encryption, and beamforming of 90 degrees allows greater coverage.

We will help with designing and planning your point-to-multipoint (PtMP) wireless connectivity requirements using our advanced planning software.

We can also identify and provide calculations of throughput (connectivity) and speed, based on height and distance.

Technology

We can provide PtMP wireless links that operate in licensed, mmWave and unlicensed spectrum, to meet the required connectivity parameters. Our products and vendors have been carefully selected to enhance our offer to industry customers.

Our dedicated in-house team, our skills in surveying, deployment, pre-staging and maintaining, set us apart from other distribution companies. We thrive on adding additional value to our customers to ensure they always get the service they need!

SLA

Typically, the installation of a point-to-multipoint link offers a shorter SLA compared to traditional forms of connectivity. This enables your connection and business to be back up and running quickly should an issue occur.

PtMP links are often used as a combined solution as a backup to allow greater redundancy option.
