Leaky feeder

Leaky feeder

A leaky feeder is a common name for a cable, usually coaxial, which distributes RF signal through holes that are spaced out along the length of the cable. In some circumstances, such as tunnels and lift shafts, it is better to radiate the signal along a line (the cable) rather than from the source (an Access Point) because of the effects of multi-path interference in confined spaces. Often, the signal along a leaky feeder is stronger at the source than at the end of the cable, but this problem is solved by the Kymata solution that evenly distributes the signal along the whole length of the cable through power injection and specially designed holes.
