Coax cable

Coax cable

Coax cable is increasingly a legacy cabling technology that has been superceded in a large part by fibre and ethernet cabling (CAT 6). This is because of the movement from analogue devices to digitally connected devices. However, coax cable still has its uses and benefits, even in a digitally connected world. For example, ethernet typically only allows connection from a device to a network switch or device of 100 to 120 metres, but fibre can go many kilometres although it’s sometimes not suitable inside a building. Coax cable can go long distances and is suited to certain in-building applications such as lift shafts and tunnels, and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) solutions.
