Spotlight on Teltonika switches TSW030 and TSW101

Check out our spotlight on Teltonika switches… Like all products from our market-leading vendor Teltonika Networks, the TSW series of Ethernet switches was designed with easy installation in mind. They are all an extra compact size, with DIN rail mounting options, a wide input voltage range, and plenty of RJ45 Ethernet ports for high-bandwidth data throughput.

Teltonika network switches are industrial and were engineered for such environments. This means sturdy aluminium housing and resistance to vibrations, humidity ranging from 10% to 90% (non-condensing), and extreme temperatures from -40 °C to 75 °C are the baseline standard. If you can imagine an industrial environment worth deploying a network switch in, any TSW device can take it on without breaking a sweat!

Cogent Distribution is continuing to expand our portfolio of Teltonika Ethernet switches, and we’ve recently added two new devices: the Teltonika TSW030, and TSW101. What does each of them bring to the IoT networking table? What are their unique set of specifications? Read on to find out all this and more!

Spotlight on Teltonika switch TSW030

Teltonika’s TSW030 is a cost-efficient unmanaged Ethernet switch that features eight 10/100 RJ45 ports and integrated DIN rail mounting. It’s a compact and rugged 8-port switch, including a 2-pin power input and low power consumption of up to 0.5 W when idle and a maximum of up to 1.5 W. Overall, the TSW030 is a plug-and-play switch that’s ideal for industrial applications needing to connect up to eight devices.

TSW030 use case

A good use case for the TSW030 is industrial manufacturing, where technologies such as automation and predictive maintenance require network centralisation of all equipment involved in the process. Achieving this is more complex than simply placing a Wi-Fi router somewhere along the manufacturing line and hoping for the best. Such centralisation requires the deployment of an Ethernet switch. But which Ethernet switch should you choose? There are managed and unmanaged switches available with a multitude of port numbers, mounting options, throughput rates, form factors, and more.

With so many options, it’s easy to get lost, but one device has got you covered, the TSW030. The affordable and cost-effective TSW030 fits this use case like clockwork. The TSW030’s speeds are utilitarian in nature, enabling sufficient throughput for equipment common in industrial manufacturing so that you don’t have to pay for more exciting speeds your machines will never use. After all, what’s the value in efficiency if it isn’t also cost-effective?

TSW030 highlights

Focus on unmanaged switch TSW101

Teltonika’s TSW101 is a plug-and-play automotive-dedicated PoE+ unmanaged switch, perfect for in-vehicle applications. This device is a robust industrial grade switch featuring five Gigabit Ethernet ports, including four with PoE+ support, and it can power your end devices while connecting them to the Internet. The TSW101 automotive switch can be powered by a 12 V or 24 V car battery, requiring no additional PSU (power supply unit). If your solutions have a home in the transport sector, you need to check out this device!

TSW101 in vehicles

Let’s explore more. The potential of connectivity-enhanced IoT solutions in vehicles is immense. From smart public transport systems able to track and match real demand to emergency services vehicles like police cars, ambulances, and fire engines, connectivity translates to optimisation. This manifests as better use of resources and an overall better experience for both the people working with the vehicles and the end client.

But there’s a catch. Automotive IoT solutions often involve many devices in a very limited space. Computers, cameras, sensors, and many others. More devices mean more cables, and since the power output of vehicles isn’t always compatible with every device, adapters also join the hardware pile. And on top of all that, managing connectivity among all these devices calls for an industrial switch (or several), which means even more cables and adapters. What a mess. But not anymore!

To ensure your in-vehicle solution won’t have to deal with a messy bundle of cables and adapters, Teltonika designed the TSW101, the perfect companion for any / all automotive connectivity needs. Its power supply voltage range was designed to match your vehicle’s output, enabling your vehicle to power it directly and without additional adapters. Additionally, this switch’s PoE+ capabilities allow the TSW101 to power your other devices, removing the need for extra adapters for them too.

In other words, the TSW101 comes with all the value of managing your connectivity with simplicity and easy scalability, whilst minimising the specific type of complexity in-vehicle solutions deal with! How cool is that?

TSW101 highlights
